Directions The Crisis Center operates in the Spain Community Chest Building, also known as the United Way Building, which is located at -
3600 8th Avenue South Shown below is a map and driving directions to our office location. The map and driving directions are for the local city streets and begin in the downtown Birmingham area at Interstate 65 or at Highway 31 / 280 on the Red Mountain Expressway. Map
Driving Directions First, you must get on 8th Avenue South going eastward, with St. Vincent's Hospital on your right: If you are on Interstate 65, take the 8th Avenue South / University Blvd. exit, going in an eastward direction towards UAB. Pass through the UAB campus and cross 20th Street Continue on 8th Avenue South, eventually going under Hwy 31 / 280 (the Red Mountain Expressway). You will see St. Vincent's Hospital on the right. If you are on Hwy 31 / 280 (the Red Mountain Expressway), take the 8th Avenue South / University Blvd. exit, going in an eastward direction. You will see St. Vincent's Hospital on the right. Pass the main entrance to St. Vincent's Hospital on your right, pass McDonalds on your right, and proceed on 8th Avenue South, going up and over the crest of the hill. The road name will change from 8th Avenue South to Clairmont Avenue, but continue going eastward on the same road, going through the traffic lights. When you reach the fork in the road, bear to the left and continue on Clairmont Avenue. You will see the Piggly Wiggley food store on the left. Continue on Clairmont Avenue. A golf course will be on your right. As you are passing the golf course, begin to look for a long row of apartments on the left. Immediately after you pass the apartments, turn left onto 36th Street South. Once on 36th Street South, go up the hill to the intersection and turn right onto 8th Avenue South. Once you have turned, the United Way Building will be on your left. Go a short distance (approximately 50 yards), passing a long line of shrubs on the left, and take the first left turn into the Crisis Center's parking lot. As you enter the parking lot, you will see the double-door entrance to the Crisis Center on your left. The address is clearly marked as "501" in the glass panel above the doors. Because the Crisis Center building is a secure facility, you must press an entrance button located on the right side of the doors. The button will notify a volunteer or staff person, and they will come to the front doors.
